( Cher, Eure-et-Loir, Indre,

The Loire valley region of France covers many departments and includes
11 departments, the Cher, Eure-et-Loir, Indre, Indre-et-Loire,
Loiret, Loir-et-Cher, Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne, Sarthe,
Vendée.
Weather: The coastal climate of mild winters and long,
warm or hot summers is very pleasant. Further inland it can be cooler and
wetter during the winter, and hotter and more changeable in the summer.
The Region: The Loire valley has been a romantic destination
for centuries. With the lush scenery and hundreds of fairy tale châteaux,
it is easy to see why. There is also the coastline, with huge stretches of
sandy beaches, and all the vineyards inland.
Agriculture is very successful here, due to the highly fertile soil. Although
all sorts of fruit, cereals and vegetables are grown in the Loire, and livestock
raised there, the most famous product is the wine. Th whites tend to be floral
and crisp, and seems to reflect the atmosphere of the region itself. There
are also lots of rosés and reds, such as the famous Saumur.
Nantes is the capital of the Loire region, and is a huge, quintessentially
French city, which is close to the coast, and easily accessible from the
UK.
Gastronomy: A significant product of Nantes is butter biscuits,
which are advertised and on sale all over the region. But the rich soil of
the Loire valley produces wonderful fruit and vegetables, which are combined
with fresh seafood in the local cuisine.
