(Calvados, Eure, Manche,
Orne, Seine-Maritime)

the Calvados, Eure, Manche, Orne and the Seine-Maritime.
Weather: The mild west coast climate of Normandy means
that it is pleasant all year round. The warmth of summer, and temperate winters
are interspersed with a medium rainfall, which keeps the countryside green.
The Region: Green fields, apple orchards and large areas
of woodland are the main features of the Normandy countryside, along with
the coastline, full of fishing ports.
Normandy is really just a few miles from the UK, but it does feel very French.
the timber-framed country cottages are just that bit different, and the towns
are like any town in France; old, with lively farmer’s markets and
plenty of little shops, cafés, restaurants and bars to choose from.
The area became known after WW2, due to the D-day landings there in 1944.
Since then, Tourists have begun visiting in increasingly large numbers for
the culture, calm and gastronomy.
Gastronomy: The cuisine of Normandy encompasses a huge
variety of rich goodies, and uses the local ingredients of apples, cider,
calvados (delicious apple brandy), cream, butter, seafood and pre-salé lamb
(lamb which has been raised on the salt marshes, and is unrivalled in flavour).
Pastries, cakes and even local breeds of poultry are abundant. There are
also 32 cheeses made in the region, including the infamous Camembert.
